Registered Respiratory Therapist

About the role

Ochsner seeks a compassionate Registered Respiratory Therapist to deliver respiratory care, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide routine and advanced therapeutic procedures, including oxygen therapy, artificial ventilation, and airway management.
• Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs, and document all clinical information accurately.
• Educate patients and coworkers on procedures, treatment plans, and safety protocols.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies.

Required profile

• Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist and certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) to be obtained within 90 days.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry software.
• Knowledge of respiratory equipment, ventilation systems, and arterial blood gas analysis.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) techniques.
