Reefer Shop Manager

About the role

Lead critical refrigerated cargo operations at APM Terminals Elizabeth, overseeing temperature‑controlled cargo handling, compliance and terminal performance. The role combines operational, maintenance, engineering and customer‑facing activities to drive reliability and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all reefer operations and maintenance, ensuring safe, reliable handling of temperature‑controlled cargo.
• Oversee reefer power infrastructure, monitoring systems, racks and outlets, coordinating capacity and readiness.
• Lead pre‑trip inspections, fault diagnostics, repairs, alarm response and emergency interventions.
• Develop and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs and reliability initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with USDA, CBP, FDA, electrical safety, environmental and ISO standards.
• Manage budgets, CAPEX/OPEX forecasts, procurement and contractor performance.
• Coach and develop technicians, foremen and supervisors, fostering a strong safety culture.
• Drive Lean, 5S, digitalization and terminal transformation initiatives while tracking KPIs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain or related field.
• 5‑10 years of experience in reefer operations or terminal maintenance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of refrigerated container systems, cold‑chain management and reliability engineering.
• Experience with safety performance, budget management and stakeholder coordination in a fast‑paced environment.
• Eligibility for a TWIC Card and required port access credentials.
