Process Chemist – Synthetic Molecule Design & Development

About the role

Lilly’s Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) team seeks a Process Chemist to develop efficient chemical processes for pharmaceutical candidates, balancing cost, capacity, and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and document laboratory experiments, optimizing reaction conditions and scaling up processes.
• Prepare material quantities ranging from milligrams to grams for project teams and collaborate with chemists, analysts, and engineers for scale‑up.
• Maintain a clean, organized lab environment with a strong focus on chemical and occupational safety.

Required profile

• BS/MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related organic chemistry STEM field.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without sponsorship.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Analytical techniques: HPLC, GC, TLC, NMR, mass spectroscopy, LC‑MS.
• Purification methods: flash chromatography, crystallization.
• Software: ChemDraw, Excel.
