Principal Scientist (Director) – Translational Medicine, Cardiovascular

About the role

MSD is seeking a Principal Scientist (Director) to lead early clinical development of novel cardiovascular therapeutics within its Translational Medicine group. The role bridges discovery science and late‑stage clinical research, driving strategy from pre‑clinical candidate approval through Phase 2 proof‑of‑concept studies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and execution of early clinical development strategies, including Phase 1 studies, biomarker plans, and clinical pharmacology programs.
• Develop and validate biomarker platforms (imaging, electrophysiology, behavioral) to assess target engagement in humans.
• Collaborate across Discovery Sciences, Preclinical Pharmacology, Regulatory Affairs, and global clinical operations to ensure seamless program progression.
• Provide clinical pharmacology support for worldwide marketing applications and communicate study results to governance bodies.

Required profile

• MD or MD/PhD with a proven track record in clinical medicine or biomedical research.
• Demonstrated scientific scholarship through publications or presentations and strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Clinical Board Certification or eligibility is preferred, especially in Cardiology or related subspecialties.
