Principal Mechanical Engineer – Platform Integration

About the role

An advanced aerospace and defense technology company is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the integration of ruggedized sensor and electronics systems onto large mobile platforms for government and defense applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical integration of multi‑sensor and electronics systems onto ground, trailer‑mounted, and maritime platforms.
• Define and manage mechanical interfaces, develop ruggedization strategies, and design mounts, enclosures, and support structures.
• Support environmental qualification efforts and create interface control documentation.
• Evaluate installation constraints, drive root‑cause analysis, and provide technical mentorship across multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or ruggedized platform integration.
• Proven experience integrating electronics, sensors, or mission systems onto large mobile platforms.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally in fast‑paced environments.

Required skills

• Mechanical integration and ruggedized design principles.
• CAD proficiency for large assemblies.
• Knowledge of MIL‑STD‑810 environmental qualification standards.
• FEA tools such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, or ABAQUS.
