Principal Mechanical Engineer - Launcher Systems

About the role

An advanced aerospace and defense technology company is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and integration of next‑generation launcher systems for UAV and missile platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical architecture and system integration of launcher platforms for ground and maritime environments.
• Define and manage critical mechanical and electro‑mechanical interfaces, including canisters, payloads, and platform infrastructure.
• Design solutions for blast, plume, thermal, and structural loads and develop gas management, shielding, and thermal protection strategies.
• Create and manage interface control documents, mechanical specifications, and system integration documentation.
• Lead supplier technical reviews, design validation, and make‑versus‑buy assessments, and support transition to production and sustainment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of aerospace or defense mechanical design and system integration experience.
• Direct experience designing launcher systems, missile integration hardware, or UAV launch platforms.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (or equivalent large‑assembly CAD tool).
• Electro‑mechanical integration including power, data, connector, and umbilical systems.
• Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑810 and other military environmental qualification standards.
• Simulation tools such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, ABAQUS.
• Hands‑on prototyping, CNC machining, additive manufacturing.
