About the role
Lilly seeks a Post‑Doctoral Scientist to support materials and polymer science activities within the Technical Services/Manufacturing Sciences organization, focusing on the characterization and qualification of materials used in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on materials and polymer science relevant to pharmaceutical manufacturing, container closure systems, or drug delivery devices.
- Design, execute, and interpret experiments to characterize mechanical, chemical, thermal, and surface properties and establish structure‑property relationships.
- Investigate material performance, degradation mechanisms, and failure modes, supporting root‑cause analyses.
- Collaborate with TS/MS, R&D, and quality scientists on studies such as extractables/leachables, product and sterilization compatibility.
- Integrate findings into specifications, control strategies, and technical reports, and present results to internal stakeholders.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated research experience in materials or polymer science with a record of peer‑reviewed publications.
- Authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
Required skills
- Material characterization techniques (mechanical, chemical, thermal, surface analysis).
- Knowledge of polymer processing and biocompatibility assessment.
- Experience with sterilization compatibility methods (gamma, e‑beam, EtO).
- Familiarity with GMP‑regulated environments and pharmaceutical material regulations.
