About the role
The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) seeks a Photography Teaching Assistant Intern to support the lead instructor in delivering a six‑week photography program for newly arrived refugee and immigrant youth. This unpaid position offers hands‑on experience working directly with students aged 5‑21, helping them develop creative and technical photography skills while documenting their personal stories.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the lead photography instructor in facilitating weekly lessons on camera operation, composition, lighting, and storytelling.
- Plan and lead short learning sessions under supervision.
- Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group support, troubleshooting camera settings and technical issues.
- Set up and break down photography equipment (cameras, tripods, lighting) before and after each class.
- Manage equipment inventory, storage, and maintenance.
- Organize, label, and archive student images in digital folders.
- Guide students in using photo‑editing software, primarily Adobe Lightroom.
