Part-Time Gardener – Independent Contractor

About the role

The Part-Time Gardener will provide gardening, horticultural, landscaping, and groundskeeping services at The Eden Preserve at Winchester and other assigned locations. Working as an independent contractor, you will maintain gardens, agricultural areas, and outdoor spaces to ensure they are safe, healthy, clean, and visually appealing.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain garden beds, lawns, walkways, and landscaped areas, including planting, watering, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and pruning.
• Prepare soil and garden beds for seasonal planting, support crop cultivation, and assist with harvesting activities.
• Monitor plants for pests, diseases, and irrigation issues, and implement sustainable practices such as composting and crop rotation.
• Operate and maintain gardening tools, irrigation hoses, and equipment, and report any repair or maintenance needs.

Required profile

• Physical ability to lift up to 30 lb, perform digging, raking, bending, kneeling, and stand for extended periods outdoors.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between locations in Virginia and Maryland.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of gardening, landscaping, and horticulture.
• Experience with soil preparation, planting, watering, pruning, and fertilizing techniques.
• Familiarity with sustainable and regenerative gardening practices such as composting and crop rotation.
• Ability to safely use and maintain basic gardening tools and irrigation systems.
