Paramedic – West End

About the role

The West End Paramedic provides immediate medical care to victims of accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses. Working as part of a two‑member ambulance crew, you will deliver pre‑hospital and intra‑hospital advanced life support from initial contact until hand‑off to the receiving facility.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls, operating specially equipped emergency vehicles safely.
• Assess injuries or illnesses, prioritize medical procedures, and provide stabilization, immobilization, and transport.
• Operate advanced equipment such as bag‑valve‑mask resuscitators, external defibrillators, and electrocardiograms.
• Administer medications via injection, IV, or oral routes under physician direction.
• Document assessments and treatments in patient‑care charting software.
• Maintain ambulance cleanliness and report infectious disease exposures.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED and at least 2 years of EMT‑B or AEMT experience.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and EMT‑Paramedic certification (state or national) upon hire.
• Ability to assess acute and chronic patients, document information, and communicate with medical personnel.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lb, push/pull up to 140 lb, and carry 80 lb short distances.

Required skills

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification (within 1 year).
• Emergency Medical Service Vehicle Operator (EMSVO) certification (within 1 year).
• Operation of bag‑valve‑mask, external defibrillator, and ECG equipment.
