Medical Scientific Affairs Postdoctoral Research Fellow

About the role

The Medical Scientific Affairs (MSA) fellowship is a two‑year, full‑time position based in Boston, designed to integrate the fellow into Ironwood’s MSA team. Fellows will work closely with internal functions and external partners, gaining hands‑on experience in strategic medical initiatives across publications, scientific communications, field medical affairs, medical information, education, and evidence generation.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of Ironwood Medical Scientific Affairs strategic plans.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally (commercial, regulatory, legal, etc.) to provide subject‑matter expertise for medical strategy and content development.
• Develop evidence‑based medical content for symposia, training materials, and other MSA deliverables.
• Generate medical insights from patient and provider perspectives to support strategic planning.
• Maintain medical information deliverables, including FAQs and custom responses.
• Provide disease‑state and product training, and participate in scientific congresses, advisory committees, and KOL engagements.
• Precept PharmD co‑op students and participate in rotational opportunities based on business needs.

Required profile

• PharmD from an ACPE‑accredited institution, eligible for Massachusetts pharmacist licensure.
• Ability to interpret and discuss complex medical scientific data.
• Excellent project, time, and organizational management skills.
• Proactive, flexible, and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Record of medical or scientific publications (preferred).
