Medical Director, Urgent Care (Physician)

About the role

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport & LSU Health Sciences Center – Shreveport is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible physician to serve as Medical Director for three growing urgent‑care clinics in Northern Louisiana. The role combines oversight of clinic operations and advanced practice providers with 50% direct clinical practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and performance oversight for urgent‑care clinics and advanced practice providers.
• Recruit, assess performance, manage compensation, and deliver feedback to staff.
• Facilitate teamwork, assign roles, and run effective meetings.
• Negotiate, resolve conflicts, and collaborate across departments.
• Address problematic physician behavior through expectation setting, documentation, and feedback.
• Communicate clearly in difficult conversations, both verbally and in writing.
• Understand healthcare finance, coding, and the billing cycle to ensure profitability.
• Plan and execute projects with clear timelines.
• Develop and track local goals aligned with Ochsner’s system strategy.
