Medical Assistant – Support Clinic Operations

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support clinic operations in Fort Smith. This role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care, especially for Spanish‑speaking patients, and ensuring smooth workflow within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct patient interviews, measure vital signs, and record information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Draw and collect blood samples, prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, and assist with procedures such as injections, EKGs, and wound care.
• Register patients, schedule appointments, manage pre‑authorizations, and route referrals as needed.
• Escort patients to exam rooms, labs, and radiology, ensuring timely return and coordination of care.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED with completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Certified Medical Assistant in Arkansas and Basic Life Support certification.
• Two or more years of experience in an ambulatory care setting (preferred).
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy skills.
• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both Spanish and English.
