Lecturer in French

About the role

The School of Modern Languages seeks a Lecturer in French to deliver and develop undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The successful candidate will lead optional Year 4 and Year 2 units, contribute to core modules, and supervise final‑year dissertations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver, and assess lectures and seminars for Year 2 and Year 4 optional French units.
• Contribute to core undergraduate courses such as French Cultures in Context, Representations of Francophone Cultures, and French in the World.
• Teach French‑to‑English translation and supervise Independent Study dissertations.
• Support undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Comparative Literatures and Cultures.
• Maintain and update the virtual learning platform and develop online asynchronous activities.
• Provide personal tutoring, academic advice, and pastoral support to students.
• Participate in administrative duties, including recruitment, admissions, and curriculum development.

Required profile

• Specialist knowledge in French language and culture, preferably with expertise in visual arts, literature, or history from French‑speaking regions outside France.
• Experience in higher‑education teaching, including lecture and seminar delivery.
• Ability to design assessment tasks and provide constructive feedback.
• Commitment to student support and academic mentorship.
