Groundskeeper 3 – Milledgeville (State Hospital)

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a dedicated Groundskeeper 3 to maintain the outdoor areas of Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. Working a regular 7:30 am‑4:30 pm shift, you will ensure the campus grounds remain attractive, safe, and functional for staff, patients, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Trim and care for established lawns, gardens, and walkways.
• Operate power mowers, edgers, and other grounds‑keeping equipment.
• Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides using hand or automatic sprayers.
• Plant seeds, bulbs, and foliage; spread mulch and topsoil as needed.
• Maintain and repair benches, lanes, and decorative stone features, including painting and minor fixes.
• Collect and dispose of trash, leaves, and debris.

Required profile

• Two years of related grounds‑keeping experience, or one year at a lower‑level Groundskeeper 2 position.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work under broad supervision and follow safety protocols.

Required skills

• Operation of power mowers and edgers.
• Use of sprayers and spreaders for fertilizer, herbicide, and insecticide application.
• Basic landscaping techniques such as planting, mulching, and topsoil placement.
