GIS Analyst

About the role

As a GIS Analyst you will be on the front lines of building and maintaining CivilGrid’s core asset: verified utility data. Through hands‑on digitization, spatial research and geodatabase upkeep you will create datasets that empower engineers with centralized site information. This hybrid role is based in Kansas City with two days a week onsite.

Key responsibilities

• Research spatial and non‑spatial datasets to expand the utility data footprint.
• Digitize non‑spatial datasets to improve site‑data accuracy.
• Use GIS products and spatial databases daily (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, SQL, internal applications).
• Interpret maps and drawings for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate consistently with Utility Research Coordinators and Digitization Project Managers.
• Process data using ETL workflows or scripts.
• Perform QA/QC on converted GIS data.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science or related field.
• Proficiency with GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS or QGIS.
• Knowledge of geospatial formats (Geodatabase, Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, CSV, REST Service).
• Basic SQL skills.
• Experience with project management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated and able to work independently.
• Eagerness to learn and grow.
