Future Talent Program – Sterile Product Development Intern

About the role

The Future Talent Program offers a 10‑12 week internship in Merck's Sterile Product Development department, located in Rahway, NJ. Interns will join a multidisciplinary team working on formulation development for sterile pharmaceutical products across diverse modalities.

Key responsibilities

• Utilize physical and chemical characterization techniques to assess the properties of small molecules, proteins, and peptides.
• Apply modeling tools to evaluate formulation stability and performance.
• Develop small‑scale in‑vitro screening systems to predict formulation outcomes.
• Plan and execute research on novel drug delivery approaches for candidate drugs.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate (sophomore‑senior) or graduate student in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of two years completed toward a bachelor’s degree by June 2027.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Strong academic performance, communication skills, and ability to work in a multi‑functional team.

Required skills

• Basic laboratory skills including electronic notebook recording.
• Experience with HPLC, spectroscopy, and other analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of safe lab practices and physical/chemical characterization methods.
