Equine Surgeon – Sports Medicine Focus

About the role

Steinbeck Peninsula Equine Clinics is seeking a board‑certified or board‑eligible equine surgeon with a passion for sports medicine and lameness. The role is based in Salinas, California, and offers the chance to work within a high‑tech, multi‑specialty equine hospital serving a vibrant sport‑horse community.

Key responsibilities

• Perform elective and emergency equine surgeries, including orthopedic and soft‑tissue procedures.
• Utilize advanced imaging modalities such as MRI, CT, digital radiography, ultrasound, and nuclear scintigraphy for diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Conduct comprehensive lameness evaluations and develop sports‑medicine treatment plans.
• Participate in an equitable on‑call surgical rotation.
• Collaborate with internal medicine specialists, farriers, and referring veterinarians.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or board‑eligible through ACVS (or equivalent).
• Strong interest and experience in equine sports medicine and lameness.
• Excellent communication skills with clients and referral partners.
• Commitment to mentorship, teaching interns and students, and teamwork.

Required skills

• Equine surgical techniques.
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) interpretation.
• Digital radiography and ultrasound operation.
• Nuclear scintigraphy (bone scan) expertise.
• Lameness evaluation and sports‑medicine assessment.
