Employment Specialist – Economic Empowerment

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an Employment Specialist to join its Economic Empowerment Team in San Jose. Working under the Employment Program Coordinator, you will help refugees achieve financial stability by connecting them with local employers and supporting their job search journey.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain long‑term relationships with area employers to identify suitable job opportunities for clients.
• Guide clients through the hiring process, ensuring they meet employer requirements and follow program policies.
• Monitor job search activity, job performance, wage levels, and satisfaction for both employers and employees.
• Provide intake, assessment, and pre‑employment/job‑readiness orientation for eligible clients.
• Document client participation and progress in compliance with grant and reporting requirements.
• Assist with post‑placement issues and support clients at off‑site job fairs and related events.
• Collaborate with other Economic Empowerment staff and participate in program meetings.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree, preferably in Social Work or a related field.
• Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations is preferred.
• Strong organizational and communication skills to manage employer relations and client documentation.
• Ability to work within a union‑represented environment (OPEIU) and adhere to collective bargaining terms.
