Director of Development

About the role

The Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL) seeks a visionary Director of Development to lead and expand its fundraising program. This senior position will shape strategy, build partnerships, and secure resources that increase access to justice for older adults and people with disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute an annual fundraising plan covering foundations, corporations, government, individual donors, major gifts, planned giving, and special events.
• Develop a long‑range strategic development roadmap aligned with CDEL’s overall mission.
• Lead the Major Gifts program, managing donor relationships through introduction, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board, and staff to ensure fundraising initiatives support organizational goals.
• Create donor and prospect solicitation materials and correspondence.
• Supervise the Development Associate and contribute to team activities.

Required profile

• Proven leadership in nonprofit development or fundraising, with a track record of securing major gifts.
• Exceptional relationship‑building and communication skills, able to inspire donors and partners.
• Strategic thinker who can translate mission goals into actionable fundraising plans.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and create new revenue opportunities.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative environment and partnering closely with senior leadership and the board.
