Director, AI Engineering, Transformation Team

About the role

The Transformation Team at Mastercard drives strategic change to re‑imagine how the company works, scales and delivers business outcomes. As Director of AI Engineering, you will shape short‑ and medium‑term AI strategies, align them with organizational goals and ensure AI solutions are delivered at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic plans for AI Engineering across Mastercard, translating organizational priorities into actionable AI initiatives.
• Lead the end‑to‑end ML engineering lifecycle—from architecture and design to deployment, monitoring and governance.
• Collaborate with product, data science and business leaders to create scalable AI solutions that drive measurable impact.
• Mentor senior technical leads, define best practices, and ensure ethical and robust model deployment.
• Identify emerging AI trends, evaluate new technologies and recommend investments to strengthen Mastercard’s AI capabilities.

Required profile

• Deep hands‑on expertise with transformer architectures and generative AI, including fine‑tuning, prompting, embeddings and evaluation.
• Proven experience turning model development into real‑world business impact.
• Strong engineering background with Python and production‑grade ML frameworks.
• Experience in data engineering and MLOps to support training, evaluation and inference at scale.
• Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to align technical delivery with business outcomes.
