Database Engineer – Remote Opportunity

About the role

We are seeking a Database Engineer to join a fully remote Agile team supporting a large federal government project for the Department of Veterans Affairs. You will design, administer, and optimize enterprise PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases in both on‑premises and cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases, including schemas, stored procedures, indexes, and permissions.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune performance to ensure high availability, data integrity, and scalability.
• Implement backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster‑recovery strategies for on‑prem and cloud databases.
• Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver secure, high‑performing database solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in database engineering or administration.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a government security clearance.
• Experience working in Agile/Safe environments and supporting CI/CD pipelines.

Required skills

• PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server administration.
• SQL development, performance tuning, and query optimization.
• Cloud platforms: AWS and Azure.
• Infrastructure as Code tools: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible.
• Programming languages: Java or Python.
