Criminal Investigator 3 – State of Georgia

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Criminal Investigator 3 to lead and support its certification and investigative programs. This position combines policy administration, internal audits, and criminal investigations to protect public safety and ensure compliance across state agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the state certification program, develop policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Maintain accurate certification records and ensure data integrity in agency record‑management systems.
• Conduct inspections and internal audits of high‑liability areas such as evidence rooms and use‑of‑force reports.
• Coordinate annual reviews and multi‑year on‑site assessments.
• Supervise assigned personnel, set performance expectations, and provide coaching.
• Investigate alleged violations of federal, state, or local laws, conduct interviews, and preserve chain of custody for evidence.
• Obtain and execute search and arrest warrants, prepare detailed case reports, and present testimony in court.
• Maintain required certifications, driver’s license, firearms qualifications, and complete annual training.
• Travel within the state and occasionally overnight for investigations and assessments.

Required profile

• Demonstrates honest, professional, and ethical conduct.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws, rules of evidence, and constitutional protections.
• Understanding of criminal investigation principles, evidence preservation, and chain of custody.
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize investigations, analyze data, and produce clear reports.
