Construction Materials Laboratory Technician

About the role

Centurion Planning & Design is seeking a full‑time, in‑office Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join its Materials Testing Department. The role involves testing soils, aggregates, concrete and other construction materials according to ASTM, AASHTO, TxDOT and project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete and related materials, including moisture‑density relationships, gradations, Atterberg limits and compressive strength.
• Prepare, cure, handle and test concrete specimens, and accurately document all test results.
• Enter test data into company reporting systems, review for accuracy and maintain organized sample storage.
• Assist with equipment checks, calibrations, maintenance and maintain laboratory certifications and QA/QC documentation.
• Communicate with project managers, field technicians and laboratory staff regarding testing requirements and schedules.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to obtain ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician, NICET Level I Soil and Concrete certifications and TxDOT lab certifications.
• Strong math skills, attention to detail and ability to follow ASTM, AASHTO, TxDOT and project testing procedures.
• Dependable, punctual, organized and capable of managing multiple samples and tests simultaneously.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Required skills

• Soil and aggregate testing procedures (e.g., Proctor, Atterberg limits).
• Concrete specimen preparation and compressive strength testing.
• Basic computer and data‑entry skills.
• Physical ability to lift 75 lb, stand for extended periods and perform repetitive laboratory tasks.
