Clinical Exercise Physiologist – Per Diem – Cardiac Rehab

About the role

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist provides supervised inpatient and outpatient stress testing and exercise assessments for cardiac and high‑risk patients. Working closely with physicians and the cardiac rehab team, the role ensures high‑quality diagnostic testing and patient education.

Key responsibilities

• Determine appropriate stress exercise protocol based on medical history, resting EKG and test indication.
• Supervise patients during various stress testing modalities (treadmill, nuclear, pharmacologic, stress echo, graded cardio‑pulmonary exercise).
• Monitor vital signs, hemodynamic response, and arrhythmias, recognizing abnormal responses and end‑points.
• Integrate test data into documentation for physician interpretation and perform Holter monitor analysis as needed.
• Educate patients on exercise, health, and lifestyle modifications and support onboarding of new staff and interns.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology.
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy & physiology, hemodynamic response, and cardiac exercise protocols.
• Certification in ACLS and BLS (Pennsylvania) and ability to obtain ACSM or CCRP certification within one year.
• Critical thinking, ability to multitask under stress, and strong patient‑education skills.

Required skills

• Cardiac rhythm and arrhythmia recognition.
• ECG and 12‑lead ECG interpretation.
• Holter monitor scan analysis.
• Use of PC software programs for data entry and reporting.
