About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Community Supervision is seeking a Behavioral Health Counselor (Level 3) to provide counseling and support to individuals under probation or parole supervision in Athens, GA. This full‑time position focuses on prevention, behavior modification, and helping clients achieve successful community reintegration.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions emphasizing coping skills, cognitive restructuring, and substance‑use interventions.
• Perform assessments, interviews, observations, and random drug screenings to gather client information.
• Develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans with measurable goals.
• Advocate for clients by coordinating services such as employment, housing, education, mental‑health care, and life‑skill programs.
• Respond to crises, act as a liaison with community resources, and maintain confidentiality of all client records.
• Document case notes, treatment records, and progress reports in accordance with agency policies.
