Behavioral Health Counselor (Level 1)

About the role

The Department of Community Supervision is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Counselor to provide guidance, support, and treatment planning for individuals under parole or probation supervision in Athens, GA. This position plays a critical role in promoting recovery, preventing recidivism, and strengthening community safety.

Key responsibilities

• Counsel individuals under supervision with an emphasis on prevention and behavior modification.
• Act as an advocate to coordinate services such as employment, housing, education, mental health, life‑skills, and substance‑use treatment.
• Resolve crisis situations and provide immediate support.
• Collect information through assessments, interviews, observations, and random drug screenings.
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to develop coping skills.
• Develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans aligned with measurable goals.
• Maintain confidentiality of all client records and case notes.
• Document progress, prepare reports, and facilitate substance‑use or cognitive programming as needed.
