AVP/VP Energy Casualty Underwriting Manager

About the role

Zurich North America is seeking an experienced underwriting leader to join its Global Specialties Energy Casualty team in Houston or New York. The role can be filled at AVP Underwriting Manager or VP Senior Underwriting Manager level, overseeing Mining Casualty and Excess Casualty portfolios.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of 6‑8 market‑facing underwriters, driving renewal and new business opportunities.
• Identify growth opportunities with key distributors and ensure accounts align with Zurich’s appetite.
• Lead negotiations of terms and conditions, close deals, and cross‑sell additional products.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and relationship‑building support to underwriters and brokers.

Required profile

• For AVP level: High School diploma plus 7+ years underwriting/market‑facing experience or equivalent combinations, with 2+ years management experience.
• For VP level: Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years underwriting or risk‑management experience (or 20+ years claims/support), plus 2+ years people‑management experience.
• Demonstrated experience in the Energy Casualty segment.

Required skills

• CPCU certification (preferred).
• Advanced knowledge of Energy Casualty Excess product lines.
• Strong broker relationships in Energy Casualty.
