Associate Director of Business Career Advising

About the role

The Associate Director of Business Career Advising serves as Northeastern University’s dedicated career specialist for students pursuing finance, consulting, marketing, business analytics and related business disciplines. The role blends sector expertise with student‑centered coaching to guide learners from early exploration through full‑time offer negotiation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individualized career advising and coaching to students and recent graduates targeting internships and full‑time roles in finance, consulting, marketing and related fields.
• Design, deliver and continuously improve sector‑specific programming covering industry exploration, networking, mock interviews, case practice, career fairs and salary negotiation.
• Cultivate and steward employer relationships with finance, consulting, marketing and B2B firms to generate internship and full‑time opportunities for students.
• Monitor business labor‑market trends, compensation benchmarks and emerging hybrid roles, translating insights into advising content and student resources.
• Supervise up to two Assistant Directors, providing coaching, performance feedback and professional development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or master’s in higher education, counseling, business administration, finance or related field preferred.
• 4‑6 years of experience in career services, business recruiting, workforce development or finance/consulting/marketing industries.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain employer relationships and translate complex industry dynamics into actionable student guidance.
• Experience managing staff, including coaching, performance management and professional development.

Required skills

• Proficiency with career management platforms such as Handshake.
• Experience using labor‑market intelligence tools like Lightcast and LinkedIn Talent Insights.
• Familiarity with AI‑enabled career development tools.
