Assistant Controller

About the role

Ever is building the modern electric vehicle retail experience and is investing in finance systems, automation and controls to support its growth. It is looking for an experienced Assistant Controller in San Francisco (hybrid) who reports to the Controller. The role oversees the monthly close, technical accounting, financial reporting, audit readiness and internal controls, and helps build scalable accounting processes while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the monthly, quarterly and year-end close, maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts, and prepare, review and approve journal entries and reconciliations
• Research and apply U.S. GAAP guidance, develop accounting policies and procedures, and prepare financial statements and analyses
• Support revenue recognition, lease accounting, inventory valuation and other technical accounting matters
• Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, coordinate audit requests and keep internal controls and documentation strong
• Identify opportunities to automate workflows, use AI tools and data analytics, and work with technology teams on system integrations
• Act as the Controller's second-in-command, mentor future team members and lead special projects

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including strong month-end close experience
• Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements and external audits
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel
• Preferred: ERP or accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct
• Preferred: SQL, Python, data automation or reporting tools; Git, APIs or AI workflow tools are a plus

What we offer

• Base salary of $165,000 - $200,000 depending on experience
