Armed Security Officer

About the role

The University of Tulsa seeks a professional Armed Security Officer to patrol campus facilities, protect life and property, and respond to emergencies. The role involves regular interaction with students, staff, and visitors while maintaining a safe environment across multiple university locations.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas, secure scheduled buildings, and monitor CCTV and alarm systems.
• Maintain radio contact with the Communication Center, report incidents, and request police or fire assistance when needed.
• Investigate incidents, complete detailed reports, and testify in campus conduct hearings or legal proceedings.
• Enforce university safety, parking, and traffic regulations by issuing citations.
• Provide first aid, assist with transportation of injured persons, and respond to building alarms.
• Control crowds and traffic during events or emergencies and assist stranded motorists.
• Secure museum galleries, verify inventories, and support opening/closing procedures at the Gilcrease Museum.

Required profile

• Minimum age 21, High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and ability to meet CLEET armed certification within six months.
• Successful completion of pre‑employment medical, vision, and 10‑panel drug screenings.
• Previous experience in physical security, loss prevention, military service, or close protection (preferred).
• Ability to meet firearms qualification and physical‑fitness standards set by the university.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to de‑escalate potentially dangerous situations.
• Capability to work with minimal supervision and handle confidential information.
