Approvals Engineer

About the role

The Approvals Engineer works in a hybrid setting, spending three days per week on-site in Mount Prospect, Illinois. This role ensures new and legacy products meet agency approval requirements such as UL, CSA, IEC, and other standards.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, prepare, and complete product agency approvals for UL, CSA, IEC, and other standards.
• Perform certification activities with third‑party agencies via external labs or the internal Approvals Lab.
• Maintain project databases, certification records, and support internal lab acceptance for Data Acceptance Programs.
• Draft and review technical documents including user manuals and labels.
• Support regulatory compliance, product risk assessment, and act as backup market entry gatekeeper for US and Canadian launches.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in Engineering/Science (Bachelor’s preferred).
• Experience with product evaluation, testing, and certification to UL, CSA, IEC, EN standards.
• Ability to work with cross‑functional teams and communicate complex information.
• Physical ability to lift up to 45 pounds.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UL, CSA, IEC certification processes.
• Experience preparing test samples and setting up test equipment.
• Programming/customizing test equipment and creating custom fixtures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
