Animal Technician – Level 2 (SPF Chicken)

About the role

Join a rapidly growing pharmaceutical manufacturer as an Animal Technician Level 2, supporting production at the West Point site. You will work in a GMP‑controlled environment caring for specific‑pathogen‑free (SPF) chicken flocks and ensuring strict biosecurity. This role contributes to the company’s strategic priorities in animal health and vaccine production.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain health, care, and security of SPF chicken flocks while enforcing rigorous biosecurity protocols.
• Perform animal husbandry duties such as feeding, grooming, cleaning, health monitoring, and breeding activities including artificial insemination.
• Handle fertile eggs: collection, identification, disinfection, storage, incubation, candling, and distribution.
• Operate euthanasia equipment safely and humanely, and collect blood samples using phlebotomy techniques.
• Hatch, wing‑band, and brood new flocks; operate and maintain incubators, refrigerators, hatchers, and rack washers.
• Stock and maintain supplies, document all tasks in compliance with cGMP standards, and operate company vehicles as needed.
• Work off‑shifts, weekends, and holidays in a unionized environment, meeting physical requirements such as lifting up to 40 lb.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED with Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification.
• 1–2 years of cGMP experience in pharmaceutical or laboratory settings.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work in a unionized, 7‑day‑a‑week operation.
• No ownership or frequent contact with bird species; strong problem‑solving and hands‑on approach.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lb, frequent walking, standing, and pushing/pulling.

Required skills

• ALAT certification.
• Animal phlebotomy (blood draws).
• cGMP compliance experience.
• Operation of incubators, refrigerators, and related equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
