Scientist, Downstream Vaccines & Advanced Biotechnologies Process R&D

About the role

We are seeking an innovative, highly motivated Scientist to join our R&D site in West Point, PA. The role focuses on downstream bioprocess and bioconjugation development for vaccine candidates and will involve frequent collaboration with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Independently design, execute and analyze process development experiments to de‑risk vaccine production.
• Lead downstream process design, development and tech transfer for clinical and commercial manufacturing.
• Represent the functional area in cross‑functional and strategic vaccine development teams.
• Provide scientific mentorship and technical guidance on downstream bioprocess and bioconjugation.
• Support strategic innovation initiatives and prepare data for manuscripts or patents.

Required profile

• BS, MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field.
• Relevant experience (2 years for BS, 1 year for MS) in pharmaceutical/biotech bioprocess development.
• Hands‑on experience with downstream purification of large complex molecules and scaling principles.
• Willingness to work with infectious agents and occasional travel/off‑hour work.

Required skills

• Downstream bioprocess purification (TFF, dead‑end filtration, chromatography, homogenization).
• Bioconjugation chemistry and processing.
• Analytical techniques: HPLC, electrophoresis, light scattering, spectroscopy.
• cGMP manufacturing knowledge.
• Process scale‑up and tech transfer experience.
