AI/ML Engineer – Build AI Teacher for Kids

About the role

Ello is creating the world’s first AI teacher that listens, speaks, adapts, and inspires children worldwide. We are seeking an AI/ML Engineer to join our product engineering and applied research team in San Francisco. You will work at the intersection of research and production, turning experimental models into real‑world features that reach millions of kids.

Key responsibilities

• Define and measure the impact of AI on children’s education.
• Own AI systems end‑to‑end, from product opportunity identification to research, evaluation, and production deployment.
• Collaborate with learning experts and engineers to build infrastructure for educational quality, safety, latency, and engagement metrics.
• Design and improve the tutoring agent, including decision‑making, intervention timing, and adaptive teaching.
• Develop learner profiling and adaptation models that inform instructional decisions.
• Create feedback loops and data flywheels that continuously improve product quality through usage and experimentation.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience building AI products in an engineering or research role.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to work independently.
• Proven ability to write clean, maintainable Python code.
• Comfort with rapidly learning unfamiliar codebases and collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
