Volunteer Firefighter/EMT – Carbondale District

About the role

The Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District seeks dedicated volunteers to serve as Firefighters and EMTs. Volunteers share the same responsibilities and training as career staff and may join specialized response teams such as swift water rescue, technical rescue, and wildland fire.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to EMS and fire/rescue calls according to standard operating guidelines.
• Perform secondary EMS duties, ambulance driving, accident scene assistance, and wildland fire support.
• Maintain and check fire apparatus, safety equipment, and station supplies.
• Participate in community events, fire prevention outreach, and special incident response.

Required profile

• At least 18 years old and a legal US resident.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license, high school diploma or GED.
• Satisfactory driving history and background check.
• Willingness to learn and remain an active district member.

Required skills

• Basic emergency medical technician (EMT‑B) knowledge (or willingness to complete CMC EMT‑B course).
• Firefighter I training (or willingness to complete CMC Firefighter I Academy).
• Ability to work day and overnight shifts and carry a pager/radio on‑call.
