About the role
The University of Miami’s UMIT Department is seeking a full‑time Senior Desktop Support Technician to provide technical assistance to faculty, staff and students in Coral Gables, Florida. The role serves as the first point of contact for desktop, network and audio‑visual issues, ensuring reliable operation of library and campus computing resources.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the initial contact for desktop, laptop and network problem determination.
- Prioritize, track and resolve help‑desk tickets, documenting all actions.
- Install, configure, test and certify desktop computers, peripherals and required software drivers.
- Perform preventive maintenance, hardware moves, de‑commissioning and repairs of PCs and printers.
- Provide audio/visual technology support for library events and spaces.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts, system backups, archiving and disaster‑recovery activities.
- Monitor system performance and communicate status to senior staff.
Required profile
- Proven experience in a senior desktop support role, preferably in an academic environment.
- Ability to manage multiple support requests and lead a small technical team.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with faculty, staff and students.
