Senior Trademark Counsel

About the role

3M is seeking a Senior Trademark Counsel to lead global brand protection initiatives. This senior legal position collaborates with innovative teams worldwide and supports the company’s most valuable trademarks.

Key responsibilities

• Create and manage global brand protection programs, including online enforcement, anti‑generic, customs enforcement, and counterfeit investigations.
• Provide counseling and training to business groups on trademark matters globally, including transaction services.
• Obtain and maintain 3M’s trademark rights worldwide, working with local counsel.
• Manage a large, diverse global trademark portfolio.
• Conduct trademark due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to enforce trademark rights.
• Participate in the IP Operations team to standardize processes and implement strategic initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in law firms, trademark offices, or in‑house legal departments.
• Admitted to practice in Minnesota or eligible for admission within six months of hire.
• Strong business acumen and ability to provide legal advice aligned with strategic initiatives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of interacting with senior leadership.
• Results‑oriented, high energy, and dedicated to responsive client service.
• Uncompromising honesty and integrity.
