Senior Adviser - Tax

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a motivated Senior Adviser – Tax to join its global tax team in Salt Lake City. You will support both U.S. and international tax compliance, reporting, and strategic initiatives, helping to optimise the company’s overall tax position.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review U.S. federal and state corporate income tax returns (Forms 1120) and assist with international filings (Forms 5471, 8858).
• Perform technical tax calculations and analysis, including GILTI, FDII, CAMT, FTC and 861 allocations.
• Prepare and review annual income tax provisions and deferred tax analysis under IAS12 and ASC 740.
• Identify tax planning opportunities, conduct due‑diligence on transactions and support risk‑mitigation strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement of tax processes through automation, data‑management enhancements and audit readiness.
• Maintain a strong commitment to personal and team safety.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA or Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
• Minimum 3 years of corporate tax experience, including exposure to international tax and tax provision work.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. tax frameworks (GILTI, FDII, CAMT) and international/OECD principles.
• Experience with IAS12 and ASC 740 reporting standards.
• Advanced Excel proficiency and familiarity with tax research tools.
• Excellent analytical, organisational and communication abilities.
