Respiratory Therapy Assistant

About the role

The Respiratory Therapy Assistant provides bedside support to respiratory therapists, ensuring equipment is clean, assembled, and ready for patient use while assisting with routine and emergent patient care tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, calibrate, and prepare ventilators and other respiratory equipment for patient use.
• Clean, restock, and distribute respiratory supplies to maintain unit par levels.
• Monitor and communicate ventilator settings and patient measurements to the respiratory therapist.
• Assist with patient positioning, proning, and mask rotation to prevent pressure injuries.
• Perform nasal swabbing and replace endotracheal tube securement devices as needed.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED or enrollment in an accredited respiratory therapy program with at least one semester completed.
• Ability to communicate effectively and organize tasks.
• Physical ability to lift 40‑50 lb, stand/walk for long periods, and perform patient transfers.

Required skills

• Ventilator assembly and calibration.
• Respiratory equipment preparation and cleaning.
• Use of aerosol delivery devices and NIPPV equipment.
