Removal Defense Attorney

About the role

Pangea is seeking a dedicated immigration attorney to represent individuals facing removal proceedings. The position can be based in either the San Jose or San Francisco office, with a preference for candidates located in San Jose. You will work on‑site two days per week, collaborating with a diverse team committed to immigrant justice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct legal representation for clients in removal proceedings and appeals.
• Engage in movement‑lawyering by collaborating with clients, families, grassroots organizers, legislators, and media to drive systemic change.
• Conduct legal research, draft motions, and prepare case strategies.
• Participate in community education and empowerment initiatives.
• Contribute to policy advocacy efforts aligned with Pangea’s mission.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with experience in immigration law and removal defense.
• Strong commitment to social justice and immigrant rights.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a consensus‑based, horizontal organization.
• Willingness to engage in both courtroom advocacy and broader movement work.

Required skills

• Legal research and writing specific to immigration law.
• Litigation skills for immigration courts and appellate proceedings.
• Client advocacy and case management.
