Quality Assurance Specialist (Aerospace) - El Paso Airport

About the role

NASA is hiring a Quality Assurance Specialist (GS-14, competitive service) for its Maintenance & Quality Assurance Branch at the El Paso Airport, Texas. The position is a direct hire filled through the Office of Personnel Management's Direct Hire Authority, with a permanent appointment and telework eligibility depending on agency policy. It involves overseeing quality assurance for Space Flight Readiness Training, Science Flights and Oversized Equipment Transport, and coordinating with government agencies operating near the airport.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the forward operating location site manager and NASA liaison to the city of El Paso, overseeing Johnson Space environmental and occupational health requirements and facilities.
• Verify that products offered to NASA meet contractual requirements before acceptance.
• Audit products and processes for conformance to specifications and recommend corrective action on documentation deficiencies.
• Take part in fact-finding and negotiations of contracts and contract changes to ensure adequate contractor quality efforts.
• Develop and support government-mandatory inspection point (GMIP) requirements and quality surveillance plans.
• Communicate findings and recommendations through briefings to the Branch and Division Chief, and evaluate the contractor's quality or inspection system.

Required profile

• One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level.
• Knowledge of quality assurance/control methods, principles and practices, including statistical analysis and sampling techniques.
• Knowledge of product characteristics, production maintenance or repair methods, and inspection, test and measurement techniques.
• Ability to interpret and apply product specifications, technical data, regulations and policy statements.
• Open to U.S. citizens, nationals or those owing allegiance to the U.S.; a background check and possible financial disclosure are required.

What we offer

• Pay scale of $145,052 to $188,573 per year (GS-14).
