Part-Time TDL Forester – Georgia Forestry Commission

About the role

The Georgia Forestry Commission seeks a Part‑Time TDL Forester to deliver technical assistance and forest‑management services to landowners across 42 counties. This temporary, grant‑funded role supports afforestation, reforestation, and cost‑share programs while providing hands‑on field work.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to landowners in all areas of forest management, including afforestation, reforestation and cost‑share program development.
• Prepare and update multiple resource management plans and conduct seedling planting and survival surveys.
• Diagnose insect and disease infestations, assess storm damage, and recommend appropriate control measures.
• Assist in developing and implementing Rx Burn plans under the guidance of certified Rx Burn managers/foresters.
• Prepare reports, measure and compute acreage, and support regional lead foresters or cost‑share coordinators as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest resources, or a closely related field from an SAF‑accredited program, or an associate degree plus Georgia Registered Forester certification.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and GIS.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.

• Hourly wage of $25 for non‑licensed graduates and $35 for Georgia Registered Foresters.
