Medical Director, Gastroenterology Therapeutic Area, US Medical Affairs

About the role

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a senior Medical Director to lead the Gastroenterology therapeutic area within US Medical Affairs. The role will shape strategy, drive evidence generation, and support both pipeline and approved products in the GI space.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute Medical Affairs‑sponsored clinical study programs, including Phase IIIb/IV trials, registries, and real‑world evidence studies.
• Lead or contribute to Integrated Evidence Teams (IETs) to create scientific strategies, evidence generation plans, and data dissemination approaches.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional partners (R&D, epidemiology, biostatistics, commercial, and field teams) to shape clinical and economic value narratives for GI products.
• Support regulatory submissions, post‑marketing commitments, and interactions with health authorities such as the FDA.
• Engage with key opinion leaders, medical societies, and patient advocacy groups to foster relationships and advance GI research.

Required profile

• MD or DO degree (or international equivalent) with board certification or eligibility in Gastroenterology.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in industry, academia, or clinical research, including design and conduct of clinical trials.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage complex evidence generation projects.
