Firefighter/Paramedic – Full‑Time

About the role

The City of Lucas Fire‑Rescue is seeking a qualified Firefighter/Paramedic (or Paramedic only) to join its full‑time team. The role involves fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, hazardous‑material response, fire prevention, and community education.

Key responsibilities

• Drive fire apparatus, operate pumps, lay hose, and perform fire combat and extinguishment tasks.
• Respond to fire calls, alarms, and medical emergencies; operate radio and communication equipment.
• Conduct building inspections and fire‑prevention programs.
• Maintain and perform minor repairs on fire equipment, apparatus, and station facilities.
• Participate in rescue operations such as water, vehicle, trench, high‑angle, confined‑space, and body recovery.
• Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) care according to certification level.
• Present safety, medical, and fire‑prevention programs to the community.
• Assist in developing emergency‑preparedness plans, hazardous‑material training, and other special assignments.

Required profile

• Ability to perform strenuous physical effort in extreme conditions (heat, cold, smoke, heights).
• Strong judgment and decision‑making skills in complex, emergency situations.
• Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work with other agencies and the public.
• Valid Texas Class C driver license with no suspensions.
• Willingness to maintain certifications and attend required training.

Required skills

• Operation of fire suppression equipment (apparatus, pumps, hoses).
• Use of rescue tools (chainsaws, hydraulic spreaders, cutters, ladders).
• Provision of BLS and ALS medical care.
• Texas DSHS Paramedic certification.
• TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter certification (or enrollment in an approved fire academy).
