Director of Security

About the role

Runpod is seeking a Director of Security to own the end‑to‑end security posture of its AI developer cloud platform, infrastructure, and corporate environments. You will shape strategy, build a high‑output security organization, and ensure customers trust the platform for mission‑critical AI workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Lead security across Cloud Security, Application Security, SecOps, and GRC, delivering predictable, high‑quality initiatives.
• Partner with GTM and Legal to achieve and maintain SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and other critical compliance certifications.
• Hire, mentor, and grow security managers and senior individual contributors in a remote‑first environment.
• Embed security into the engineering lifecycle with SSDLC, threat modeling, architecture reviews, and automated vulnerability scanning.
• Establish robust monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response programs to reduce MTTD and MTTR.
• Act as executive sponsor for customer security conversations and manage third‑party vendor risk assessments.
• Drive security automation and integrate testing and policy enforcement into CI/CD pipelines.

Required profile

• 7+ years leading security teams for high‑scale cloud platforms or infrastructure products.
• Proven ability to translate complex security goals into executed programs while balancing risk and business agility.
• Experience building culture, accountability, and momentum across distributed teams.
• Strong operational security metrics mindset (MTTD, MTTR, patch SLAs, defect escape rates).
• Excellent written and verbal communication with senior stakeholders.

Required skills

• Cloud security expertise, including modern cloud‑native architectures.
• Kubernetes and Linux OS security.
• Networking and virtualization security.
• CI/CD pipeline integration and security automation.
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA.
