Special Education Teacher (Deaf & Hard of Hearing) – 1 FTE

About the role

This full‑time position supports deaf and hard‑of‑hearing (DHH) students in a K‑8 classroom within the TOPS program. Reporting to the building principal, the teacher designs and delivers adapted curricula, monitors progress, and collaborates with families and specialists to ensure each student meets individualized goals.

Key responsibilities

• Foster an educational environment conducive to learning and maturation for DHH students.
• Plan, adapt, and deliver instructional programs and individual lesson plans that meet each student’s needs.
• Implement appropriate instructional methods and materials, attend in‑service training, and stay current with special‑education techniques.
• Establish and enforce classroom policies, provide guidance, counseling, and discipline.
• Collaborate with parents, guardians, specialists, and staff to support student achievement.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and maintain accurate records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree and a valid Washington State teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement.
• Experience working with culturally, racially and economically diverse student populations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff, including use of sign language or non‑verbal methods.
• Knowledge of behavior management, instructional techniques, and special‑education regulations.
