Quality Engineer I – Construction Projects

About the role

Mortenson is looking for a Quality Engineer I to support quality control processes on construction projects. The role will manage, monitor, and report project quality performance while leading corrective and preventive actions.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Quality Management Plan for assigned scopes from notice to proceed through final acceptance.
• Oversee quality inspections of materials and work, identify non‑conformances, and manage NCNs and RFIs.
• Serve as a technical resource for project teams and resolve technical issues with customers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Train and manage project personnel on Mortenson’s Quality System and related processes.
• Capture best practices and identify opportunities to improve margin or reduce risk through means‑and‑methods or material selection.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum one year of experience in design, engineering, or construction.
• Current driver’s license.
• Ability to conduct constructability, quality, shop‑drawing, and submittal reviews.
• Knowledge of the design‑bid‑build process and basic construction systems.
• Strong teamwork orientation and effective communication skills.

• Knowledge of large crane operations.
• Understanding of mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with medium and high voltage utility electrical systems.
• Constructability review capability.
• Quality review of design documents.
• Shop drawing review.
• Submittal review.
• Design‑bid‑build process knowledge.
