Project Manager – Cost Controls

About the role

Mortenson is looking for an experienced Project Manager focused on cost controls to lead complex projects in a dynamic environment. The role combines financial oversight, contract negotiation, and team mentorship to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Manage overall financial health of projects, including budgeting and cost tracking.
• Support and lead EPC contract negotiations, technical exhibits, and schedule development.
• Lead vendor procurement and bid/award phases for major subs and suppliers.
• Develop and maintain project financial and equipment projections.
• Allocate project estimates into the financial system, determine cost codes, and approve invoices.
• Provide financials and billings to accounting and create monthly owner billings.
• Manage subcontracts, suppliers, and trade‑partner selections.
• Handle billings, contract management, and change orders.
• Develop Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers, approve timecards, and provide performance feedback.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum six years of relevant experience on complex projects.
• Detail‑oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Basic understanding of construction law and standard business practices.
• Preference for experience in commercial construction, renewable energy, EPC contracting, or emerging technologies.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and project‑related web applications.
• Professional attitude, strong customer service skills, and ability to interpret Mortenson policies.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Base salary range $113,500 – $170,300 (higher in select locations) and eligibility for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
