News Reporter & Anchor for Public Radio

About the role

The News Reporter & Anchor will join KWGS, the University of Tulsa's public radio station, to deliver local news on NPR’s flagship programs. Reporting to the News Director, the role involves anchoring weekday newscasts, producing feature stories, and supporting digital platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Write, anchor, and post six daily newscasts for broadcast, the station website, NPR One, and social media.
• Gather audio, images, and other assets from meetings, hearings, and press conferences for story production.
• Research, produce, and voice‑assign spot news and feature stories for both broadcast and the website.
• Update the station website and share stories via social media each weekday morning and on a weekend “on‑call” rotation.
• Cover breaking news, contribute to NPR national newscasts, and collaborate with other Oklahoma public‑radio stations.
• Represent KWGS at external events, candidate forums, and fundraising activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience producing daily news for radio, TV, digital media, or newspaper.
• Experience with at least one content‑management system and public‑media news environments.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally and statewide for coverage.
• Strong verbal communication, AP‑style familiarity, and high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
• Adobe Audition editing software.
• Basic HTML skills.
• Familiarity with AP style guidelines.
• Experience using a content‑management system.
